It’s been a big year for women’s fashion. We’ve gone back in time, oohing and aahing at the plush but completely impractical period styles seen in The Duchess and The Other Boleyn Girl. We’ve inched into the 20th Century with vintage fashions from The Edge of Love and Brideshead Revisited and embraced the cutting-edge contemporary clothes as worn in The House Bunny and High School Musical 3: Senior Year. The fashions have taken us through the seasons and to all corners of the globe from the sing-a-long sunshine of a Greek island in Mamma Mia! to the urban Manhattan chic of Meg Ryan and co. in The Women. And talking of Manhattan, there was also some other little fashion film about four women there that you might have heard of called Sex and the City. So before we make space in our wardrobes anticipating the great onscreen styles that 2009 promises with the likes of Confessions of a Shopaholic and Bride Wars, we’re taking a look back at 2008 and picking our top three women’s fashion spots. Trust us, it’s not been easy.

3. Heart pendant

We felt that our top three should include some razzle-dazzle and opted for this gorgeous heart pendant as seen on Elizabeth Banks in Zack and Miri Make a Porno. It was a hard fought contest to be crowned the best piece of jewellery as the likes of The House Bunny and Mamma Mia! are crammed full of sparkly stunners, but our heart was stolen by this pendant and we spotted a red version of Miri’s blue. Made by acclaimed silver jewellers, Martick Jewellery, this glass pendant with ‘molten’ texture hangs from a sterling silver ball bearings chain and is colourful, contemporary and oh-so chic.

2. Black babydoll dress

Having recently rated our favourite little black dresses and party dresses, we’ve gone dress crazy here at Boxwish – but which was the best of 2008? Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) white corsage dress from SATC was always a contender and there were some brilliant ones in HSM3 as worn by Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), but we’ve given the final nod to the latest Bond girl. Yes, we loved the black bow dress as worn by Gemma Arterton’s Agent Fields in Quantum of Solace; however we’ve chosen the black babydoll of Camille (Olga Kurylenko). Our stylish spot-on lookalike is made from double layers of chiffon and embellished with beads and sequins for extra panache come party time.

1. Blue high heels

And who else at number one by the most fabled of fashionistas – Carrie Bradshaw? Certainly, she and her Manhattan chums Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) delivered in every aspect of style in SATC – from shoes to handbags, dresses to jewellery, but we’ve had to be ruthless and choose just one item. The gladiator heels came close; however it being winter we’ve gone for a more covered up, party shoe and one that is so symbolic in the film’s plot – the blue high heels. For those with pits of money, there is the original Manolo Blahnik version and for the rest of us there’s this stunning pair of courts in French navy satin from Faith. Also available in red, they are now reduced from £50 to £40, so get them now to complete your winter wardrobe.boxwish
